I can help you look into it, if you'd like... :P ;)

Re: Will & Moral Responsibility in Machines : Self-Driving Google Car

It is interesting to consider how the attribution of free will to the car, will effect the trust given to it and what "features" will effect these attributions.

Re: Will & Moral Responsibility in Machines : Self-Driving Google Car

Guest - yeah, i'm still not sure where people draw the line for something to become an accountable and morally responsible being. there are those, like some of the neuroscientists, who argue that your argument also holds for humans - that we are nothing but machines whose actions and decisions can be predicted up to 7 seconds in advance using brain scans (examples - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sci... ; http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01... ).

From what i've read so far in the experimental philosophy literature it seems that the attribution of moral responsibility is quite flexible and is more related to the need people have to attribute blame than it is to the features of the will of the target being evaluated. In the case of the self-driving google car it's a bit more tricky to apply blame to anyone, so might as well put it on the car.

Re: Will & Moral Responsibility in Machines : Self-Driving Google Car

It is amazing. Why should a car be more "responsible" for an accedent then an oven over cooking a cake.... perhaps the futurestic taste of the idea makes the "car" more human than the day to day machine.

Re: Implicit Association Test Experiment Software

Emma - I suggest trying the Inquisit forums for help on these issues. I'm not an Inquisit expert, I'm afraid.

Re: Implicit Association Test Experiment Software

Hi, I have a basic question - but I thought you might be able to help. I'm designing a picture stimulus IAT with inquisit and can't seem to upload images as stimuli - does anybody know how to do this? I have entered the file name by hand but I get a 'don't recognise file path' message like this" / items = targetA / please verify that the target path xxxx is correct" (the file path is correct!)

Re: Implicit Association Test Experiment Software

Inquisit has a web version - http://www.millisecond.com/pro... but it costs money.

you could also try and contact project Implicit. https://implicit.harvard.edu/i... . they are sometimes willing to collaborate with other researchers and they'll take care of the technicalities for you.

there's no tutorial you can read that will help you set that online IAT up if you're not proficient with web development, which you obviously aren't. better found someone who is.

good luck.

Re: Implicit Association Test Experiment Software

Do you have a tutorial on how to do this?

I need to design my own IAT and preferably distribute it across the internet. Do you have any other suggestions on what I could use? I installed Inquisit and made a script for my IAT, is there anywhere that I can use this script for distribution over internet?

Re: Free Concordance / Keyword Frequency Text Analysis Tools

Mona - I suggest contacting the people behind the app. I have very little experience with this.

Re: Free Concordance / Keyword Frequency Text Analysis Tools

i need some help; who can help me with a free concordancer i want to use it for my research in the field of applied linguistics. discourse analysis

Re: Implicit Association Test Experiment Software

Rachel - you need to know a thing or two about how PHP/HTML/JScript server side applications work. you need a server or a host that supports those standards (probably your university tech staff can help), you then upload the files to the server and access the main index file through a web browser. Anyways, you need someone who knows about tech to help you with those.

Re: Implicit Association Test Experiment Software

None of these worked. I've actually done that, but it requires a great deal of technical expertise, with some HTML/PHP/JAVASCRIPT programming and an indepth knowledge of the Qualtrics mechanism i describe in the post here (passing on variables, embed variables, etc.). I would recommend using the WebIAT platform.

If you don't have those skills my recommendation would be to get in touch with the Project Implicit people and see how to work with them.

Re: Implicit Association Test Experiment Software

Hi, what would you recommend if I am trying to embed an IAT into a Qualtrics study?
I will also try to prepare something like this for one of the topic.
